Learning about the difficulties faced by another gentleman in Sungai Siput, Perak, Kalam Initiative took immediate steps to access his situation. This gentleman works at a car wash and earns a salary of RM1,000 a month. As a sole breadwinner, he supports his wife and six children, four of whom are school-going, while also caring for his elderly mother.
Although he receives RM950 in children’s aid from the welfare department, it is still not enough to cover his family’s needs. He lives in a rental house and struggles to make timely payments for his bills. The high costs of his children’s schooling add to his financial burden.
After reviewing his case, Kalam Initiative allocated RM1,800 for the purchase of groceries or utility payments. This money was distributed in monthly instalments of RM150 over a year, helping ease his financial worries and provide some relief for his family.
